Looking for a Publisher?
Like the “About Us” page says, we’re a small-press publishing company, and we have no serious expectation of making much profit; we’d be happy to break even. No, we’re not a “vanity press” — but maybe “vanity-adjacent.” That said, we’re interested in all manner of books, especially poetry, screenplays, and whatever else you’ve been working on. Got a cookbook and only want a short run? Some fiction, short story collection, memoir? Great Aunt Martha’s diary from 1936? How-to-do-something no one else seems to have thought of? The Big Book of Stamp Collecting Trivia? Sure, why not. We’ll take a look at it. Just send us a query letter (and we aren’t fussy about the query letter format, like so many agents and publishers are) and we’ll see what you’ve got. We ARE interested in quality, though; we’re not going to publish what we think is junk. No porn, no political screeds left, center or right, no conspiracy theories. Can’t do picture books and children’s books.
If you have serious ambitions about selling a couple hundred thousand copies and winding up on the New York Times bestseller list, mazel tov … and we’re probably not the right press for you.
You want to know about cost, of course. No, we don’t charge to read your stuff, and we don’t charge to edit and get your stuff ready for publication; we aren’t that guy. If we like your stuff, we’ll work with you to get it ready. If you need something special, we can talk about it. In general, though, we want our percentage of your eventual sales on Amazon, at the rate of 15 percent of cover price. But everything is discussable and negotiable. The good news is we get you get draft and proof copies from Amazon at cost, usually just a couple bucks at most, and you/we only need a few of them.
We’ll post your book on Amazon, but after that, marketing and all that– press releases, advance reader copies, book parties, all that marketing, that’s up to you to do (or if you want, you can hire someone to do it for you; that’s between you and them. There are dozens — hundreds? — of web sites out there that will teach you as much as you want to learn about that end of the business.
